Kwazulu Natal Hunting Ranch and Accommodation

This controlled conservation area is situated in the North Western parts of Kwazulu-Natal, 20 km from the small town Dundee, 300km from Durban and 400km from Johannesburg. This is a Malaria free area with a moderate climate and offers some of the finest game hunting in Africa.

The main ranch and lodge belongs and are managed by the Gunther family and we encourage hunters to bring their family or friends along. Our sole purpose is to give them an unbelievable African experience, share with them the Africa we love and leave them with an adventure full of remarkable memories that will last a lifetime.

The ranch and the concessions with its 30+ different hunt able big game species cover over 100000ha of pristine mountain, plains and savannah. Most of these areas are wild free range areas where both PH and client practice fair chase and share knowledge and reward.

The ranch is in open mountain area with aloe and acacia savannah. It is a haven for 100+ indigenous Trees, 150+ indigenous Birds and up to 50 species of mammals from the shy spotted Genet to the amazingly huge Giraffe. The day temperatures varies from 20-30°C in summer and 15-25°C in winter .Spectacular thunderstorms and sunsets can be seen in summer.

From 2000-4000 years ago the San people roamed and hunted this area and left evidence of their lifestyle in the rock paintings that can be seen on the cliffs and rocks. They later fled to the Kalahari Desert from the Inguni tribes that come from North Africa. 300 years these Inguni people grazed their herds of cattle here. The names of the rivers, streams and hills bear testimony to the large herds of wild animals, which roamed these hills and Valleys.

In the 1800’s these tribes fled from the Zulu king Shaka and his growing Zulu nation and took refuge in these hills and some turned into cannibalism for survival.

180 years ago the Afrikaans speaking Voortrekkers families came over the Drakensberg Mountains to defeat the Zulu nation and started to productively farm these areas.

This was a cattle ranch and has been farmed by the Gunther since 1882. They later turned more into game farming and believe in sustainable production and manage the farm accordingly.

The hunting techniques that we employ can vary based on the preference and ability of our client.

On a successful hunting day, you will be up before sunrise to have a light meal and something to drink, then at first light, the hunt will begin. Driving in a 4 x 4 pickup or walking with your Professional Hunter till you see the trophy you want, stalking the trophy, and then if you are lucky and have a clear shot, take it. After the trophy is down and photos are taken the Professional Hunter and his staff load the animal on the 4×4 and call camp on the 2-way radio to make ready for brunch.

The Professional Hunter then takes the trophy to the skinning shed so it can be skinned and the horns properly prepared by the trained skinners. Then it is brunch, normally between 11:00-12:00. At about 14:00 you leave camp again to hunt and return to camp at the last light to enjoy it around the campfire talking about the day’s hunt. Dinner will be served and you can enjoy a well-deserved rest.

Safari hunting on the Ranch is great and some SCI and Rowland Ward trophies have been taken including the SCI NO I Mountain Reedbuck and some 60+ inch kudu bulls.

The INDUMENI Mountain on the Ranch is the highest peak in the Biggersberg range. INDUMENI means “where the thunder rolls” in the native Zulu language.

The breathtaking sceneries and views exudes an atmosphere of peace and tranquillity.
